Many massage therapists, osteopaths, physiotherapists and other bodyworkers feel drawn to supporting people with complex and profound disabilities, yet standard professional training rarely prepares practitioners for the realities and responsibilities of this work.
Alongside my clinical practice, I provide specialist in-person training and mentoring for therapists seeking to deepen their skills through advanced professional development.
This advanced 2-day training (12 hours CPD) supports professionals in developing the confidence, practical understanding and ethical awareness needed to work safely and meaningfully with individuals with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and other complex needs.
Grounded in extensive hands-on experience within specialist educational and residential settings, the training focuses on real-world application, sensitivity and professional responsibility.
Participants will learn how to:
Build confidence when working with complex needs
Adapt massage and manual therapy techniques safely and appropriately
Understand consent beyond verbal communication
Recognise regulation, sensory responses and body language
Work respectfully within residential, educational and multidisciplinary environments
Training is delivered in person, in small groups, creating a safe, supportive and interactive learning environment with time for discussion, reflection and practical learning.
Optional follow-up mentoring is available for therapists who would like continued guidance as they begin integrating this work into practice.
